At Metro Health, we understand how important it is to keep our mothers and babies healthy and comfortable. That’s why we are very proud of the large and beautiful labor and delivery rooms at the Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center. We also have special safety features like the HUGS Tag transmitter ankle bracelet that is attached to each baby. The bracelet will sound an alarm to the staff and lock all doors if a baby is brought too close to an exit. Learn more.
You can count on high quality care at the Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center. Metro Health supports the national “Healthy People 2010″ and Kent County’s “Healthy Kent 2010″ goals that are designed to improve the health and well-being of women, infants, children and families.
One of those goals is to increase the proportion of mothers who breast feed their babies in the early postpartum period to a target goal of 75%. Metro Health has reached that goal and is proud of the steps we’ve taken to encourage successful breastfeeding.
- The Childbirth Center provides lactation support from staff who are certified lactation consultants and counselors.
- We have a very active breast feeding supporting group for our patients and their newborns.
- Metro Health has received an award from the West Michigan Association of Lactation Consultants for the “breast feeding friendly environment” in our new facility.
The Childbirth Center is also involved in the Safe Sleep Program of Kent County, an effort to reduce infant mortality by educating parents about the importance of putting babies on their backs for sleeping. We are implementing this program through patient care and staff education. We have also implemented a screening tool that we use to evaluate all of our patients for postpartum depression.
