Quality & Safety Achievements

Metro Health is proud of the many local, regional and national awards we have received. Some of our recent honors include:

  • Practice Greenhealth recognized Metro Health with a new award, Circle of Excellence in the Waste Category, for performance in recycling and waste management. 2014.
  • Recognized with two Health Stream Awards of Excellence: HCAHPS Overall Inpatient Experience and CG-CAHPS Overall Rating – Ophthalmology (Metro Health Ophthalmology – Douglas Doyle, DO). 2014.
  • Metro Health received two Michigan Peer Review Organization (MPRO) Governor’s Awards for outstanding achievement in reducing health-associated infections in the acute care hospital setting and for outstanding inpatient clinical achievement in the acute care hospital setting. 2014.
  • Metro Health was awarded with the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline® Silver Plus Recognition for meeting 85% or greater composite score with no single measure below 75% on a variety of clinical measures. 2014.
  • Recognized by The Studer Group with the Excellence in Patient Care Award for receiving results with an “Overall Rating of 9 or 10″ on the HCAHPS patient survey. 2014.
  • Metro Health cleared as a HIMSS Level Six for Ambulatory & Hospital. 11% of organizations out of 5,000 surveyed can claim that distinction. For Ambulatory, 6% out of 20,000 organizations are at this stage. Being one of the higher staged organizations proves Metro’s accomplishments at the implementation and use of EMRs. 2013.
  • Metro Health Hospital received the Women’s Choice Award from Women’s Certified for being one of “America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience.” 2013.
  • Recognized by Epic as #1 for Percent Compliance of ED CPOE Orders among all Epic customers compliance of the use use of computerized order entry within the emergency department, the compliance was over 98%. The higher the compliance, the more likely the computerized order entry has helped drive safety and quality. 2013.
  • Received the Leadership Award for Clinical Experience from VHA for sustained excellent performance in the Clinical Excellence category. 2013.
  • Metro Health received Bronze Recognition from the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline® for at least 90 days of 85% orhigher composite adherence to all STEMI Receiving Center Performance Achievement indicators and 75% or higher compliance on all STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve the quality care of STEMI patients. 2013.
  • Recognized for Excellence in Patient Care. Named “Most Achieved” for work in in the Discharge Information composite ratings on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS, patient survey in the value-based purchasing category form The Studer Group. 2012, 2013.
  • Named one of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in America. One of only seven hospitals in Michigan to receive this distinction from Becker’s Healthcare Review. 2013.
  • Selected as one of Michigan’s Clean Corporate Citizens (C3) by demonstrating strong environmental performance and a commitment to continual environmental improvement. 2013.
  • Named on of the National Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. 2013.
  • Inducted into Practice Greenhealth’s Environmental Leadership Circle, winners must have at least a 25% recycle rate, only 23 hospitals in the US were given the ELC award in 2011 and six of them were from Michigan. 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.
  • Named one of West Michigan’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.
  • Named one of the 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies. 2012, 2013.
  • Recipient of the PEAK (Performance Excellence, Achievement and Knowledge) Award for sustained excellent performance in the Patient Experience category. 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013.
  • Recipient of the Silver Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology Foundations’ MCDR ACTION Registry “Get with the Guidelines” program. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. Metro Health consistently met or exceeded performance standards for four consecutive quarters. 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.
  • Named one of the Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals by Soliant Health. 2010, 2011 & 2013.
  • Received Most Wired hospital recognition from Hospitals and Health Networks. 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.
  • Received the Ludwig Community Benefit Award from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association for Metro Health Hospital’s Metro Care program. 2012.
  • Received an “A” Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel. 2012.
  • Named an Elite Award Winner in the category of Work-Life Balance from West Michigan’s Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. 2011.
  • Received Patient-Centered Medical Home designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, awarded to nine Metro Health primary care offices. 2011.
  • Recipient of the Priority Health Quality Award, awarded to 10 Metro Health physician practices: Caledonia, Cascade, Cedar Springs, Comstock Park, Hudsonville, Jenison, Rockford, Southwest – East, Southwest – West & Wayland. 2011.
  • New Business of the Year awarded to Metro Health Allendale by the Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce. 2010.
  • Recipient of the Merck Excellence in Diabetes Care Award from the American Osteopathic Foundation for work in advancing diabetes education and treatment. 2010.
  • Awarded with the ASGE Certificate of Recognition of Quality in Endoscopy from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). Metro Health Outpatient Endoscopy was recognized as a unit that promotes quality in endoscopy through the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program (EURP). 2010.
  • Recognized for our contribution to the West Michigan Glycemic Collaborative (WMGC) with Saint Mary’s Health Care and Spectrum Health and Diabetes Care Centers by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. 2010.
  • Named among the Top 10 Percent of Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities for delivering effective, efficient and patient-centered care by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation. 2009.
  • Recognized with an Excellence Through Insight Award from HealthStream Research for Overall Emergency Department Satisfaction, Overall Outpatient Satisfaction and Overall Inpatient Satisfaction for medium-sized hospitals, as well as most improved overall outpatient satisfaction. Additionally, three units were recognized for their overall satisfaction score: Inpatient-Med Surg, Outpatient-Lab and Outpatient Radiology/Imaging. 2009.
  • As part of the West Michigan Glycemic Collaborative, Metro Health Hospital was recognized as the Diabetes Champion of the Year by the Michigan ADA. This was based on innovative approaches to the management of diabetes. October 2009
  • Recognized with the Outstanding Performance on Dysphagia Screening by the Michigan Stroke Registry and Quality Improvement Project and the Michigan Department of Community Health. 2009.
  • Recognized with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from HealthGrades for superior patient satisfaction. 2009
  • Recipient of the MIDAS+ Platinum Quality Award for 2007. The award was based on performance in various medical conditions and procedures. 2009.
  • Recipient of the PEAK (Performance Excellence, Achievement and Knowledge) Award for top performance in core measures for Heart Failure Care and Pneumonia Care. 2009.
