Grand Rapids, Michigan, March 7, 2007 -
Total Benchmark Solutions has awarded Metro Health Hospital its Best
Acute-Care Hospitals Award – the only hospital in Grand Rapids to
receive this distinction.
Using quality measurements provided by healthcare organizations to the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, TBS ranked hospitals
nationwide on 18 core standards for 2005 data. Metro Health, which was
one of only five Michigan hospitals to make the list, was recognized
for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia care.
"Metro Health has clearly demonstrated its capabilities as a
top-quality hospital in these key areas," said Bradley Peterson, TBS
chairman and founder. "Metro Health’s rankings show that the hospital
is taking the right steps toward improving the quality of care in West
Michigan and throughout the state."
The CMS quality initiative is designed to refine and standardize
hospital data, performance measures and data transmission in order to
develop a single standard when discussing quality. More than 2,600
hospitals were evaluated as part of the process.
"We were very pleased to be the only Grand Rapids hospital to be
recognized for excellence in acute care," said Mike Faas, president and
CEO of Metro Health. "This award demonstrates that Metro Health
provides exceptional care and treatment for some of the most common,
yet life-threatening, ailments.
"The analysis of common healthcare data allows consumers to compare
apples-to-apples when they are evaluating where to seek treatment. We
applaud the efforts of TBS to provide objective quality measures that
move us closer to that goal."
The TBS award is one of several received by Metro Health in recent months. Other awards include
- Governor’s Awards of Excellence for Inpatient Services, Emergency
Services and Physician Office Services for 2003, 2004 and 2005
- Diabetic Center of Excellent by the National Committee for Quality Assurance
- 2006 Select Practice National Quality Leader in the category of heart attacks by CareScience.
- Clean Corporate Citizen by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality
- Partners for Change Award by Hospitals for a Health Environment
