Free Self-Defense Workshop
Posted: January 13, 2009
Metro Health will introduce a pilot program centered on self-defense as well as an introduction to Tae Kwon Do.
This class will focus on basic self-defense techniques and strategies which actually means doing everything possible to avoid physical contact with someone who threatens you. Self-defense is all about using your smarts – not your fists!
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean philosophy and way of life that has been practiced for more than two thousand years. Literally translated, TAE means to kick or to strike with the foot, KWON means to punch or to strike with the hand, and DO means discipline or art. This program is designed as non-violent and encompasses a complete system of exercise to strengthen the body and mind.
Robert W. Barss is the program’s instructor and is a Junior Grand Master 7th Dan Black Belt. Mr. Barss has been teaching Tae Kwon Do for more than 30 years and has traveled throughout the US, Korea, Spain and Vietnam to learn and practice this ancient form of martial art.
