  • A new office in Greenville at 1915 W. Washington St. opening October.
  • An office in downtown Grand Rapids at 555 MidTowne NE slated to open during the winter of 2009-10.

To provide even greater access to patients in West Michigan, the new physician group will also provide services at a variety of other locations in Montcalm, Kent and Allegan counties.

Services provided will include:

  • General cardiology

  • Coronary interventions
  • Inpatient cardiac care
  • Electrophysiology
  • Coumadin clinic

"We are so pleased to welcome this talented group of dedicated cardiologists to the staff of Metro Health," said Mike Faas, president and CEO. "The establishment of this practice allows our hospital to broaden the scope of cardiology services and to expand their availability in the community.

"As we have said, Metro Health is committed to increasing the number and caliber of primary and specialty healthcare services that we provide. Our goal is to provide quality care at convenient locations to the West Michigan community."

Prior to forming Metro Heart and Vascular, the physicians practiced at the West Michigan Heart, PC office located in the main lobby of the hospital. The physicians include:

  • John Key, D.O., chairman of cardiology, director of the Metro Health cardiovascular lab, is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and will practice in Wyoming, Greenville and in downtown Grand Rapids.

  • Matthew Sevensma, D.O., director of the non-invasive cardiology laboratory, is board certified in internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiovascular disease and is heart-rhythm-society certified. He will practice in Wyoming and in downtown Grand Rapids.
  • Eric Walchak, D.O., director of cardiology fellowship program and director of interventional cardiology, is board certified in internal medicine, general cardiology, interventional cardiology, interventional peripheral vascular disease, general peripheral vascular disease and nuclear cardiology and will practice in Wyoming and in downtown Grand Rapids.

"While the practice name has changed, the faces – and the location in our hospital – will remain the same, "Faas said. "Patients will enjoy the same convenient access to comprehensive cardiology services that they have received since the new hospital opened in 2007. Additionally, our new Greenville location means less driving and the same quality care for patients in the northeast part of our service area.

"Finally, we look forward to Metro Heart and Vascular opening its third office in downtown Grand Rapids this winter. The ‘Medical Mile’ is rapidly becoming a destination for healthcare services, and we are very pleased to be part of this growth."
