Metro Health Supports Enroll Michigan
Posted: September 7, 2011
In March 2011, a coalition of Michigan hospitals, school districts and community-based health centers launched Enroll Michigan, a campaign to enroll as many eligible children as possible in the state’s free or low-cost Medicaid (Healthy Kids) and MIChild health insurance programs.
Metro Health is pleased to support this statewide effort to connect kids with MIChild and Healthy Kids coverage. We join other hospitals across the state in believing that all Michigan residents need access to high-quality health care. To that end, we support maximum enrollment to not only improve patient health but also to help reduce record-high uncompensated care levels that hospitals provide every day as the health care safety net. This initiative helps provide and protect health care access in our community.
About 90 percent of Michigan’s 172,000 uninsured children are eligible for one of these two state programs but are simply not enrolled. Coverage costs just $10 a month or less, depending on eligibility. Enrollment takes about 30 minutes. There is no paperwork, just a simple conversation.
Information about Enroll Michigan is available in the emergency department waiting room, the cashier’s desk in the hospital lobby and our neighborhood outpatient centers. Anyone interested in enrolling their child can call 2-1-1 or visit enrollmichigan.com .
