Metro Health Hospital Receives National Award for Heart Attack Care

Metro Health Hospital has received another national award for its exceptional heart attack care.

The hospital was among two in Michigan – and 85 across the country – recognzied with a 2011 Silver Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry “Get with the Guidelines” program.

The award recognizes Metro’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients according to levels of care outlined by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association clinical guidelines. Metro Health consistently met or exceeded performance standards for four consecutive quarters to be eligible for this award.

In an effort to deliver excellent care to all heart-attack patients, Metro Health:

  • Uses standardized admission orders for all patients experiencing chest pains and related symptoms that would indicate a heart attack
  • Provides smoking cessation information to all patients upon admission, whether they smoke or not
  • Uses standardized discharge instructions
