Cheryl DeYoung Named Best of Metro
Posted: October 31, 2012
Cheryl has been working at Metro Health for 16 years! She began as a nurse extern and worked as a PCT while attending nursing school at GVSU. Following her graduation she started as an RN in the Assisted Breathing Center where she’s been working ever since.
Providing the Best Patient Experience is an important part of what Cheryl does, especially in a setting as unique as the ABC where they provide care for patients over time and get to know them. “Cheryl is always professional, kind and caring,” says one of her nomination forms. “She cares for her patients as if they are family members.”
“Staff on our unit all work closely together, not just the RNs,” explains Cheryl. “We work as a team for the patients but also often for each other.” Cheryl is known among her co-workers as much for providing the Best Employee Experience as much as the Best Patient. “She lights up the unit with her positive attitude and humor,” exclaims a nomination form. “I am privileged to be working with her and learning from her. The ABC is very lucky to have Cheryl!!”
When asked about her favorite Metro memory, Cheryl thought again of the ABC staff. She spoke about a recent benefit where they provided moral support and financial assistance for a team member whose son is fighting cancer. “The benefit was a financial success,” she explained. “But at the same time it told volumes about the heart of the ABC staff.”
When asked about being selected as the Best of Metro, Cheryl said that “winning this award humbles me.” She continued by saying, “there are many that are equally and more deserving than I am. The Best of Metro is just one person doing their best one day at a time, no matter who you are or what you are doing.”
Congratulations, Cheryl! YOU are the BEST of Metro!
