Metro Health and OAM Expand Downtown Surgery Center
Posted: November 8, 2012
Metro Health and Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan (OAM) announced today that they will expand their downtown surgery center, adding a fourth operating room in January 2013. Metro and OAM have already received a certificate of need for the additional surgery space. The surgery center will be renamed the Metro Health OAM Surgery Center, as the health system continues to expand its partnerships and grow its footprint.
In addition, Metro Health will add approximately 10,000 square feet of space to expand heart and vascular services, and Metro Health orthopedic physician services, in adjoining space.
“Demands for Metro Health and OAM services at the surgery center were strong immediately, and have continued to grow since the location opened in 2009,” said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health. “Partnerships are key to almost everything that we do, and our partnerships with Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan and others are crucial to this center’s success.”
The Metro Health OAM Surgery Center is located at 555 Mid Towne Street, near the corner of Michigan Street and College Avenue, in an area known as the Medical Mile or Pill Hill. It is the only surgical center in the Grand Rapids-area that is completely focused on orthopedic surgeries.
The surgery center currently features three state-of-the-art operating suites.
Prominent exterior signage, visible from Michigan Street and I-196, was installed last week on the Women’s Health Center of West Michigan building that houses the surgical center. The signage, featuring the surgery center’s new name, brings another major health system to the Medical Mile skyline.
