Katie Pemberton Selected as Best of Metro
Posted: February 13, 2013
Katie has been working at Metro Health for nine years. She is the Clinical Coordinator in the Childbirth Center. She started her Metro career as a Patient Care Technician on Tower 2 while finishing up nursing school. After four years in the Childbirth Center, she took on her current role as Clinical Coordinator.
Katie treats each family she cares for like they are her own. She is known for providing the Best Patient Experience because she doesn’t only care for “a person in a bed,” but also the grandmother who would like a cup of coffee. “The patient experience is not isolated, it develops in layers, from every interaction that she sees and hears, to how her family is treated,” she explains.
“She has the demeanor of being approachable, utilizes excellent listening skills, but will stand for the standard of excellence with our department,” said her nomination form. Katie always “interfaces with frustrated patients and overtired nurse colleagues, and treats them with grace and respect.”
Not only is Katie known for providing the Best Patient Experience, but she is also recognized for offering the Best Employee Experience. The physician that nominated her explained that Katie balances the eternal conflict of work that needs to be done, with work that can be done. “It is a difficult balance she deals with on a daily basis, but she is not afraid to take on some of the burden herself in order to provide the care that every patient needs.”
“I am proud to tell people where I work and what we stand for,” explained Katie. “I am lucky because I truly enjoy my job!”
When asked about her favorite Metro memory, Katie talked about her first delivery after coming back from maternity leave. “I cried with joy along with my patient and her family,” she said. “I finally had a complete understanding of what my patients had been experiencing, the absolute miracle of babies and motherhood.”
Katie was very grateful when asked about being selected Best of Metro. “I approach each day with the intent to make it more positive for our patients and co-workers,” she explained. “Being named Best of Metro is a rewarding recognition of that intent.”
YOU are the BEST of Metro!
