Metro Health Welcomes Experienced Healthcare Executive as its New COO

Svetlana-DembitskayaMetro Health Hospital has appointed Svetlana Dembitskaya as its new chief operating officer.

Dembitskaya brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare leadership to her new role at Metro Health. She will be responsible for the hospital’s day-to-day operations, overseeing the hospital’s annual operating budget, more than 2,500 physicians and employees and 12 neighborhood outpatient centers that collectively serve more than 250,000 patients each year.

“Additionally, Svetlana’s experience in strategic planning and patient-centered care will complement Metro’s continued mission to deliver optimal physician and patient experiences with safe, effective and efficient operations and quality healthcare.”

Prior to joining Metro Health, Dembitskaya served as COO of medicine at Mount Sinai Health System in New York, where she was responsible for the oversight and strategic direction of all teaching, research, clinical, marketing and development programs for 10 divisions, two institutes, eight hospital service lines and multiple ambulatory sites. She had oversight of a $1.2 billion budget and 1,000+ physicians.

Dembitskaya has also served as executive director of the Harvard University Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Cardiovascular Institute in Boston. In this role, she managed all day-to-day operations and provided strategic direction for clinical, research and training programs for the $250 million institute.

In addition, Dembitskaya has served as director of operation and finance for the Department of Internal Medicine – Nephrology Division at the University of Michigan Health System. In this role, she worked extensively with partnerships, compliance, quality and expansion strategies, as well as billing, information technology and financial reporting.

Dembitskaya has also performed as the COO and chief financial officer of Aerospace and Medical Diagnostics Research and Development at ARTANN Laboratories in Princeton, N.J. She began her career as an engineer in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute developing life support systems for spacecrafts and aircrafts.

Dembitskaya holds a combined bachelor and master of aerospace engineering degree from the Moscow Aviation Institute as well as a master of business administration from the University of Michigan.

Active professionally, Dembitskaya is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Heart Association and several healthcare organizations.

A native of Russia, Dembitskaya has made her home in Michigan since 1993.
