Posted: May 14, 2014
Matt Blair, DO
He grew up in Grand Rapids and Metro was his family hospital. He even had surgery at Metro as a child. Dr. Blair’s interest in medicine sparked because of a family friend, Ralph Walsh, DO and anesthesiologist. Dr. Walsh was a long-term member of Metro’s Medical Staff and talked with Dr. Blair about osteopathic medicine. Today, Dr. Blair says he became a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) because of Dr. Walsh.
Dr. Blair graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997, and he completed his internal medicine residency at Oakland General Hospital in 2000. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and currently serves as the Medical Director for Care Management.
Dr. Blair is receiving the Physician Best of Metro award for excellence in documentation; his documentation is thorough and timely. Detailed documentation leads to better communication between the care team, drives revenue and is a vital component of quality. Dr. Blair has promoted and pushed improvements in documentation. He has been instrumental in promoting better understanding and compliance with the 2-midnight rule among residents and his colleagues.
Dr. Blair loves working at Metro and states, “This is home; this is where I belong”.
He adds, “Teaching is really a big part of why I love working at Metro. Graduation is one of the proudest days. Watching 3rd year medical students come in scared and then to see them learn and grow as residents to now become my colleagues. It is a very proud day.”
Dr. Blair and his wife Kelli have two children, Kieran, age 14, and Sammi, age 12. They enjoy going up north, boating and family activities.
Congratulations Dr. Blair!
