The Family Practice Residency Program at Metro Health Hospital provides clinical experiences at Metro Health Breton, a primary care center that features 15 exam rooms and 2 procedure rooms. Family practice residents average 100 patient visits per month.
We teach more than 30 outpatient procedures at the Breton Health Center including sigmoidoscopy, nasolaryngoscopy, dermatological procedures, colposcopy, cryosurgery, and fracture care. As a resident you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to manage health care for an entire family, even in the most complex cases. The residency program maintains its own inpatient service dedicated to teaching residents how family physicians work efficiently in the hospital.
Specialty rotations at Metro Health Hospital are offered with more than 60 specialists provide training in areas such as cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, allergy and immunology, and sports medicine.
In addition to our Statewide Campus System affiliation, through MSUCOM, we are also affiliated with the Grand Rapids Area Medical Education and Research Center (MERC) which offers our residents the opportunity to do rotations at other hospitals in the Grand Rapids area.
