Tell about your experience with the Metro Way 5K?
“I turned 40 in May of 2013 and was disgusted by how overweight and sedentary I had become. I got on the computer and decided that I needed to enter a 5K to make myself accountable.  I found the Metro Way 5K was about 8 weeks away and decided that I should try for it.

The first thing I noticed when I went to packet pick up for the Metro 5K was how friendly and supportive the ladies at the table were.  When I told them this was my first 5K, they cheered and encouraged me. I felt for the first time that I could actually do this I couldn’t have asked for a better First 5K experience.”

What do you like most about the Metro Way 5K?
“I liked that the Metro Way 5K didn’t feel competitive. The people that were set up along the route to both cheer us on and help with directions at the end were extremely energetic and encouraging and it made me smile, even though I was exhausted.”

What made you want to participate for a second year in a row?
“I really want to participate for a second year in a row because I want to see if I can have a stronger run than I did last year. I am more prepared for what the route will entail and I want to conquer the route, rather than survive it.”

What advice do you have for others who want to try to run a 5K?
“Just do it! The minute you cross the start line you have already won your own personal race.  Remind yourself that with every step you are becoming stronger than the person you were before.  And you will find that the feeling of accomplishment when you cross that finish line is difficult to achieve in another way.”
