Michael Jakubowski, MD
Dr. Michael Jakubowski has been the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at Metro Health Hospital since 1988. His practice migrated from Internal Medicine to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine (also known as Physiatry) following the completion of his second residency in 1987. He moved to Grand Rapids that year to take advantage of the opportunity to build an intensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation office practice at Mary Free Bed Hospital.
Dr. Jakubowski was part of a team that created a thriving inpatient rehabilitation program at Metro serving patients for the past two decades. He worked over 15 years as the Associate Director of the Pain Rehabilitation Program at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. He also participated in the development of the outpatient spine evaluation programs at Spectrum Hospital, MMPC and Metro Health Hospital.
Following his undergraduate years at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Dr. Jakubowski received his medical degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Michigan. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
His specialty interests include management of neck and back pain problems including some spinal injections, orthopedic and neurological injuries, electromyography, orthotics and spasticity. Dr. Jakubowski also treats patients experiencing functional deficits related to stroke, amputation and trauma.
