Ed Kornoelje, DO, FAOASM
Dr. Kornoelje is a board-certified family medicine physician and sports medicine specialist. He completed a sports medicine fellowship and has been awarded his society’s highest honor by becoming a Fellow in the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. In addition to his role as medical director for Metro Health Sports Medicine, Dr. Kornoelje serves as medical director for several local sporting events, is the head team physician for Calvin College, Grand Rapids Community College and the Grand Rapids Griffins and also covers local high school teams. He is an avid runner who’s completed multiple marathons.

Steven VanNoord, MD
Dr. VanNoord is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. He received his medical degree at the Chicago College of Medicine at the University of Illinois and completed his sports medicine fellowship at Ohio State University. Dr. VanNoord is the team physician for Grand Valley State University and Hudsonville High School. He also provides sports medicine coverage for local athletic events.

Kristi Kern, DO
Dr. Kern is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine and is board eligible in osteopathic manipulative medicine. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her family medicine/OMM residency and sports medicine fellowship through Metro Health Hospital. Dr. Kern is a team physician for Aquinas College and also covers local professional teams and athletic events. She cares for entire families and has a particular interest in the care of athletes, especially using hands-on treatment for a range of musculoskeletal problems. Dr. Kern is an avid sports enthusiast, having participated in basketball and track in college.

Aryn Johnson, DO
Dr. Johnson is a board-certified family medicine physician and sports medicine specialist. He earned his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a family practice residency and a sports medicine fellowship at Metro Health Hospital. Dr. Johnson is a team physician for Davenport University. He also covers local professional teams and community events. Dr. Johnson offers medical care in general family practice and osteopathic manipulative medicine, as well as sports injury prevention and management.

Matthew Boyd, MD
Dr. Boyd is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at Saint Mary’s Health Care and his sports medicine fellowship at Michigan State University. Dr. Boyd is the team physician for Allendale High School and Grand Valley State University. He also covers the Grand Rapids Griffins and community events like the Fifth Third River Bank Run, Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon, and the Meijer State Games. His hobbies include road biking and golfing.

Caroline Beall, DO, ATC
Dr. Beall is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine and is a certified athletic trainer. Her medical degree is from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and she did a family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. A skater herself, she is also a team doctor for the US Figure Skating Team.

Terence Reuben, PT, CPT, CSC
Terence completed his education in physical therapy in South Africa and joined the Metro Health Sports Medicine team in 1997. He uses his special training in orthopedics, manual therapy, sports medicine and personal training to manage athletes and their injuries. He also performs biomechanical evaluations, helping fit patients with custom orthotics. Terence works closely with a number of Grand Rapids area athletic teams and community events. He is also an avid triathlete and runner who brings his expertise in these sports to his patients.

Mark McKamey, AT, ATC, PTA
Mark completed his undergraduate degree at Aquinas College and received his physical therapist assistant degree from Baker College in Muskegon. He is a licensed athletic trainer as well as a licensed physical therapist assistant. Mark has worked numerous athletic events in professional, college, amateur and high school settings.

David DaPrato, DPT
Dave received a bachelor’s in psychology from Hope College and a doctorate in physical therapy from Grand Valley State University. He has a strong interest in sports physical therapy due to his experiences and outreach within the athletic community. He has participated in several triathlons, 5Ks, marathons and half marathons and is the president of T3 Tri Team of West Michigan, which helps raise money for the local chapter of My Team Triumph. Dave is also a triathlon coach for the Michigan chapter of Team in Training which helps raise money to fight blood cancer.

Jacquelyn Hoeve, DPT
Jacquie has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from Grand Valley State University. She went on to earn her doctorate of physical therapy through Grand Valley’s physical therapy program. Currently, she is working towards physical therapy certifications in manual therapy and sports medicine. She has experience working several community events such as the Fifth Third River Bank Run, the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon, and the Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon. Jacquie is an avid runner herself, but also enjoys a variety of activities to help keep her healthy and active.

Sarah Saagman, DPT
Sarah graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor of science in health professions and a minor in psychology. She went on to get her doctorate of physical therapy (DPT) from GVSU. Sarah has played several sports throughout her life and enjoys participating in a variety of physical activities to stay active and healthy. She provides sports medicine coverage for area athletic events and has a special interest in orthopedics, manual therapy and sports physical therapy.

Ashley McKee, DPTAshley received her bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences from Michigan State University with a specialization in health promotion. She went on to get a doctorate in physical therapy from Oakland University with a strong emphasis on manual therapy and orthopedics. Heldi Pols, PTA
Heidi graduated from Baker College as a physical therapist assistant and joined the Metro Health Sports Medicine team after graduation. Working closely with this team, she uses her specialty training in orthopedics, manual therapy & sports medicine to manage athletes and their injuries. Heidi works and volunteers for several of the local races and participates in an annual panel discussion for the female runner and injury clinics. Heidi has participated in two triathlons as well as local 10k and 5k races. Heidi has played softball most of her life and participates in many other sports for recreation.
