Metro Health Collaborates with Saint Mary’s Health Care to Provide Cancer Educational Resources

Return to News & Events

Metro Health has entered a partnership with Saint Mary's Health Care to provide Metro cancer patients and their families access to educational resources and expertise through the Warren Reynolds Cancer Resource Library, a service of the Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary's Health Care.

A dedicated extension of this library, including books and online access, will be available at the resource center within Metro's new 21,500-square-foot Cancer Center, opening June 30. The Warren Reynolds Cancer Resource Library offers comprehensive information on cancer and is a valuable source for those with a desire to be educated on the most up-to-date diagnostic tools, research studies, cancer treatments and clinical trials.

"This partnership with Saint Mary's is yet another example of regional collaboration for the delivery of quality healthcare throughout the region," said Michael Faas, president of Metro Health. "This is an important first step in what we all hope will grow into a broader partnership."

Metro Health's collaboration with Saint Mary's is one of two key partnerships in support of Metro's new Cancer Center. Earlier this month, Metro announced a joint venture with the University of Michigan Health System for radiation oncology services.

"The Warren Reynolds Cancer Resource Library was created, through philanthropy, to serve as a central point of reference for cancer patients and their families, providing immediate access to the very best information available," said Philip H. McCorkle, Jr.,  president and CEO of Saint Mary's Health Care. "Since it opened in January 2005, we have served more than 11,000 patients and their families. Through this new partnership with Metro, the services will be available to even more people in our community and beyond. "

Resources and online research through the Warren Reynolds Cancer Resource Library will be available at the resource center within Metro's Cancer Center. The resource center will feature a spacious seating area, computer stations and library.

"The most common course of action patients take following the devastating news of cancer diagnosis is an immediate search for information and expertise," said Michael Zakem, DO, and medical director of Metro Health's Cancer Center. "A knowledgeable patient is a key component to successful cancer treatment. Access to the resources the Warren Reynolds Cancer Resource Library provides will be a significant asset for our patients and the Cancer Center."
