The Metro Health Hospital Sleep Disorders Lab has received a program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
To receive accreditation, the Sleep Disorders Lab underwent a detailed inspection of both the facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training, to ensure it meets or exceeds all AASM standards. Additionally, the organization evaluated the facility's goals to ensure they were clearly stated and included plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in West Michigan.
Metro Health's lab is a 10-bed facility that tests and provides treatment for sleep disorders, including snoring, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia and related issues. Since its inception in 1992, the Sleep Lab has helped thousands of people improve their sleep. The lab is served by Medical Director Dr. William Katz, who is board certified in sleep and pulmonary medicine and Dr. Dale Coller, who is board certified in sleep medicine.
"The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Metro Health on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center," said Dr. Clete Kushida, AASM president. "The center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders."

Insufficient sleep is linked to medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. Annually, sleep deprivation costs American society more than $100 billion in lost productivity, medical expenses, sick leave and property damage.
