Susan C. Sevensma, DO, of Metro Health Hospital was elected third vice president of the American Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees during its recent annual business meeting in Chicago. Active at the state level, Dr. Sevensma is a past president of the Michigan Osteopathic Association, Kent County Osteopathic Association and Michigan Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators. In addition to her responsibilities on the Board of Trustees, Dr. Sevensma also serves the AOA as program chair of the Bureau of Conventions and as a member of the Dale Dodson Education Fund Committee. She is an AOA board-certified family physician.
Sevensma serves as director of medical education at Metro Health and medical director at Metro Health – Breton Clinic. She also is an assistant clinical professor at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing and an assistant regional dean at the Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine—A.T. Still University.
After earning her osteopathic medical degree from MSUCOM, Sevensma took her internship and residency training at Metro Health . She has received numerous awards, including the AOA Mentor Hall of Fame Award, the American Osteopathic Foundation Clinical Assessment Program Residency of the Year Award, the Patenge Medal of Public Service from Michigan State University and the Michael Opipiari, DO, Distinguished Service Award.
