Five Strategic Health Priorities

During 2011, Metro Health Hospital, Spectrum Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital and the Kent County Health Department convened a large coalition, the Kent County Working Together for a Healthier Tomorrow coalition to complete a community health needs assessment (CHNA) for Kent County, Michigan. The coalition was made up of the sponsoring partners and agencies and institutions in the county that impact health. The sponsoring partners contracted with the Michigan Public Health Institute to facilitate the community health needs assessment (CHNA) and to develop a health improvement plan for the 602,622 residents of Kent County. The three sponsoring nonprofit hospitals in accordance with health reform legislation are charged with developing individual implementation strategies that will help positively impact the health outcomes of the 5 strategic priorities that emerged from the CHNA.
