Caring for You and Your Baby

At Metro Health, the large and beautiful labor and delivery rooms of our Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center are just one aspect of the high-quality care we provide mothers and their babies. Learn more.

Metro Health supports the national “Healthy People 2010″ and Kent County’s “Healthy Kent 2010″ goals designed to improve the health and well-being of women, infants, children and families.

One of those goals is to increase the proportion of mothers who breastfeed their babies in the early postpartum period. Metro Health has reached the target goal of 75 percent and is proud of the steps we’ve taken to encourage successful breastfeeding.

    • The Childbirth Center provides lactation support from staff who are certified lactation consultants and counselors.
    • We have a very active breastfeeding support group for our patients and their newborns.
    • Metro Health received an award from the West Michigan Association of Lactation Consultants for its “breastfeeding friendly environment” in our facility.

The Childbirth Center is involved in the Safe Sleep Program of Kent County, an effort to reduce infant mortality by educating parents about the importance of putting babies on their backs for sleeping. And, because we know pregnancy and childbirth activate many emotions, we use a screening tool to evaluate all of our patients for postpartum depression.
