blog-diabetes-grocery-store-tour-sqType 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, and effects 26 million Americans. Type 2 diabetes happens when your body doesn’t produce enough insulin. Without enough insulin, your blood sugar level rises which can harm your heart, eyes, kidneys and nerves. The most common symptoms of diabetes are:

  • Feeling very thirsty
  • Urinating more often than usual
  • Having blurred vision
  • Feeling very hungry
  • Tingling, pain or numbness in the hands or feet

There are certain risk factors that can increase your chances of developing diabetes. Risk factors include:

  • Family history of diabetes
  • Being overweight
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Physical inactivity
  • High blood pressure

There is no cure for diabetes, however it can be managed with proper weight management, nutrition and exercise. If you have questions about diabetes or your health, make sure to contact your doctor. They can provide you with treatment options, as well as tips for managing diabetes.
