Cancer Center Open House
To celebrate its new partnership with the University of Michigan, Metro Health will hold a community open house at its new Cancer Center at Metro Health Village on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new center, which is located at 5950 Metro Way in Wyoming. The center, which opened this year, is a partnership with the University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology, allowing Metro Health to offer comprehensive cancer care in a peaceful, therapeutic environment.
"We are working to change the way that cancer care is delivered in West Michigan," said Mike Faas, CEO of Metro Health. "Partnering with the University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology gives our patients access to world-class cancer expertise and cutting-edge clinical trials without having to travel far from home. We invite the community to join with us for this open house and see first hand the new face of cancer care in West Michigan.
Tours will be available of the center, which offers primary cancer care, hematology services, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, a cancer library and related services. Physicians will offer free skin cancer education during the four-hour event, which is open to the public.
Community members will also have the opportunity to meet with the leaders of Metro’s cancer care team, who include:
- Dr. Michael Zakem, director of the Cancer Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.
- Dr. Julie Forstner, director of radiation oncology of the Cancer Center and a faculty member of the University of Michigan Medical School. She is board certified in radiation oncology.
