Dr. Larry J. Diaz Designated a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions

Diaz_LarryMetro Health Hospital announced today that Dr. Larry J. Diaz has been designated a fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, or SCAI.

This honor recognizes highly experienced members who have met performance standards established by SCAI and who have garnered excellent peer recommendations.  SCAI is the primary professional association for invasive and interventional cardiologists.  Member physicians diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease and congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.

An interventional cardiologist, Diaz has nine years of experience in cardiology and cardiovascular disease.  He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.  He joined Metro Health’s growing heart and vascular medicine practice in 2011.

A native of Venezuela who is fluent in four languages, Diaz obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela.  He completed his residency in internal medicine and his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.  He also completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Diaz lectures and writes frequently on interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular medicine subjects. He has authored several original research papers, as well as numerous book chapters and actively participates in the education of residents and fellows. He is an assistant professor of medicine at Michigan State University. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and an active member of the American Heart Association, Society of Vascular Medicine, American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. .

He has received numerous professional and research awards, including being named one of America’s Top Cardiologists in 2010 by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and the Physician Recognition Award from the American Medical Association for 2009-2010, his third time to receive this honor.  He is also a member of the National Register’s “Who’s Who” in Executives and Professionals.
