  • Head and Neck Cancer

Cancer cells will spread from the area in which they originated, such as the tongue, larynx, or thyroid gland and into the lymph nodes. This initial spread is an important factor in the overall spread of the disease. Once the cancer cells spread into the lymph nodes they are more mobile and able to spread to other parts of the body. This makes it very important to intervene as soon as possible.

A neck dissection is a surgical procedure to remove lymph nodes from the area of the neck which may be infected with cancer cells. The procedure is performed in the operating room and may require an overnight hospital stay.
