Heart-Healthy Pasta Alternatives
Many pastas, while incredibly delicious, are made with refined flour and stripped of important nutrients. Here are four healthy pasta alternatives that can be low in sodium, calories and saturated fat:
- Quinoa is rich in protein and high in Vitamin B.
- ‘Spaghetti Squash’ is made from the inner ‘flesh’ of a squash and looks similar to noodle strands. Squash has a variety of health benefits such as high fiber and potassium.
- Zucchini can be shredded or cut into ribbons with a peeler. This is a low-calorie, healthy alternative.
- Brown-Rice Pasta. Brown-rice pasta is a great source of protein and magnesium. It’s also a great option for those that are gluten-free.
