Is the Doctor Available Now? Metro Health Hospital Publishes Emergency Room Wait Times

Need stitches or a cast but don’t want to wait in an emergency room for three hours? Find out how long you might have to wait to see a doctor by visiting Metro Health Hospital’s website before you make a trip.

West Michigan’s leading community hospital is now publishing ER wait times on its website so patients can make faster, easier decisions about where to seek treatment. The ER wait time published at www.metrohealth.net is based on the average wait time for patients served during the previous hour and is refreshed every five minutes. The time indicates the total number of minutes “from door to doc,” meaning how long it takes after walking into Metro’s ER to wait before seeing a physician.

Additionally, patients may text “ER” to 40491 to receive the Metro Health Hospital Emergency Room wait time estimate via text.

A patient who is having symptoms of heart attack or stroke should not check ER wait times. Patients experiencing such symptoms should call 911 immediately and proceed to the nearest emergency room.

“As we work to provide the best patient experience, it seemed natural to add this feature to our website,” said Mike Faas, Metro Health president and CEO. “For ER visits to treat abdominal pain, minor head trauma or a possible broken bone, we can offer easy access to our wait times so that people can make an informed choice about where to seek treatment. No one wants to spend more time in the ER than he or she has to – and now, patients won’t have to.”

To see current wait time average, click on the ER Wait Times button at www.metrohealth.net.
