Mary Irvin Recognized as Best of Metro

Congratulations!
Mary Irvin
Best of Metro Winner

mary-irvin-bom_resizedMary Irvin has worked at Metro Health for 13 years. She is a Billing and Reimbursement Coordinator and an ICD-10 Trainer. She began her career at Metro as a Billing and Reimbursement Specialist and worked in Change Entry before moving to her current position several years ago.

Mary’s nomination highlights her ability to provide the Best Employee Experience: “Mary is an exceptional example of how an individual can positively impact an employee’s experience.” The nomination describes her as a team player and always willing to help Metro teammates in other departments: “Mary did an outstanding job of providing a welcoming face to the Professional Billing department. She was my go-to girl! She did not make me feel ignorant for asking questions…She was also willing to educate staff… [about] claims denials.”

Mary also has a deserved reputation for providing the Best Physician Experience, which was key during the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. Mary tackled the challenge of educating and supporting Metro’s physicians during the conversion from 13,000 diagnosis codes to more than 60,000. She “put together awesome training tools and… exhibited a style with physicians that had most asking ‘When is Mary coming back to help me with my coding?’” The fact that physicians continue to look forward to ongoing coding and documentation education sessions with Mary speaks volumes.

Mary’s approach to providing the best experiences is something she has carried with her since she began her career at Metro: “When I started at Metro I remember hearing that everyone is a customer. Not just our patients, but providers, co-workers and everyone we encountered. It is important to me to provide the best customer service to everyone I come in contact with.”

When asked about her favorite Metro Memory, Mary thought back on the ICD-10 transition: “I enjoyed working with our providers to prepare for the implementation of ICD-10. I learned a lot from them that helped me to become a better coder.”

When asked what being named Best of Metro meant to her, Mary summed it up simply: “Words cannot express how honored and grateful I feel.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Mary.

Congratulations, Mary!
