Metro Health Adds New Family Practitioner and Physician Assistant

Metro Health Hospital announced today that it has hired Mary B. O’Brien and Holly Ann Vollink.

O’Brien joins the growing Grand Valley State University Campus Health Center in Allendale as a certified family nurse practitioner. She brings more than 10 years of experience in family practice and peri-operative risk evaluation to the center, which is run by Metro Health. In her new role, she will provide additional nursing and healthcare support to meet increased demand from the nearly 25,000 students, faculty and staff at GVSU.

Prior to joining Metro, O’Brien served as an FNP with Pentwater Family Practice and, before that, Metro Health’s Department of Surgery. She also spent a decade as an independent nurse consultant, working on hospital organization and re-engineering projects in Michigan, Indiana and North Dakota. O’Brien has also held a variety of nursing positions during her 35-year career.

She received her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, a master of science from the University of Michigan, a master of business administration from Indiana State University and a post master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner from GVSU. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the National Women’s Health Network.

She currently resides in Norton Shores with her husband and son.

Vollink joins Metro Health’s neighborhood outpatient center in Rockford as a physician assistant. She previously worked in cardiology at Spectrum Health Medical Group Cardiology and in emergency medicine at Emergency Care Specialists in Grand Rapids.

She received a bachelor of science from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Chatham College in Pittsburgh. She currently resides in the Grand Rapids area.
