Metro Health Hospital Foundation Announces Spring Grants

March 22, 2007

The Metro Health Hospital Foundation has
approved more than $121,000 in grants to support programs and services
provided by the Hospital.

Fourteen grants ranging from $1,100 to $40,000 will support a wide
variety of initiatives, including the purchase of new equipment and the
enhancement or expansion of services.

"The spring grants fund a wide range of services that will further our
mission to promote the health and well being of the community in West
Michigan," said Foundation Chief Development Officer Laura Staskiewicz.
"The Foundation is pleased to provide financial support to the Hospital
through these grant programs, which will allocate more than $300,000
during 2007."

The 2007 spring grants include:

  • Emergency room equipment to allow physicians to work more quickly with patients experiencing breathing difficulties
  • A new hybrid shuttle to transport people from the parking lot
    to the Hospital entrance and return them to their vehicles after a
    hospital visit or receiving treatment
  • Funds to support the Childbirth Center’s efforts on fetal loss grief
  • An automated external defibrillator, which increases
    successful resuscitation should a patient experience cardiac arrest
    while in the Sleep/Neuroscience department. It also assists with basic
    life support.
  • Funds to support the Hospital’s fifth Annual Research Day, which is designed to encourage medical research
