Metro Health Launches Mobile Mammography Services

bg2 - Metro Health Launches Mobile Mammography Services

Five communities in and around Grand Rapids will benefit from the addition of mobile mammography services – thanks to Metro Health.

Starting today, women will be able to receive a digital screening mammogram from the new mobile service at five Metro Health neighborhood outpatient centers. Digital mammography was developed to improve the quality of images for women with dense breast tissue. The process allows physicians reviewing the images to manipulate them in order to better identify abnormalities. Younger women also benefit from the technology.

When fully scheduled, the mobile mammography truck will be able to screen 30 patients a day – more than twice as many as current equipment allows.

The mobile mammogram truck will be at:
Breton, 1925 Breton Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, four days each month (new service)
Cascade, 4300 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, three days per month (new service)
Cedar Springs, 14211 White Creek Road, Cedar Springs, six days each month (new service)
Caledonia, 8941 N. Rodgers Court, Caledonia, four days per month
Hudsonville, 3912, 32nd Ave., Hudsonville, three days each month

The truck, branded with Metro Health’s logo, will be operated by Sandy Bruer, a registered technologist credentialed for mammography with 10 years of radiography experience.

“It’s about access, convenience and quality,” said Sylvia Huitsing, senior director of clinical support services. “Our new mobile mammogram truck will allow us to provide potentially life-saving screenings to more women in a convenient, easy-to-reach location close to their home. Early detection is critical in the fight against breast cancer. Metro Health is offering West Michigan another tool in this fight.”

The addition of mobile mammography allows three of Metro’s 12 neighborhood outpatient centers – Breton, Cascade and Cedar Springs – to offer a new service to patients. The centers in Caledonia and Hudsonville have had long-standing mammography services.

Metro Health already offers digital screening mammography at its Allendale and Comstock Park locations.

Metro Health offers screening and diagnostic mammograms at the hospital in Wyoming. Women do not have to be patients at Metro Health to schedule their screening mammogram at one of the neighborhood outpatient centers or at the hospital. To schedule a mammogram, call 616.252.4461
