Services for everything from concussion testing, knee injuries and ACL tears to sprains, broken bones and golfer’s elbow will be available at six locations throughout West Michigan, including the new state-of-the-art OAM Metro Sports Medicine Center in the Spartan Stores YMCA in Wyoming.
“We are so pleased to expand our relationship with OAM by establishing the region’s best and most comprehensive sports medicine practice,” said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health. “This partnership builds on a growing number of similar relationships for Metro Health, demonstrating our commitment to serving the community by partnering with the best providers.
“As with everything we do, the OAM/Metro Sports Medicine practice takes a holistic approach to treat body, mind and spirit. Our team approach to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries allows for the best patient experience and outcomes.”
OAM and Metro Health initiated a partnership in 2010 to provide outpatient surgical services at the Metro Health OAM Surgery Center at MidTowne in downtown Grand Rapids—the only single-specialty orthopaedic outpatient surgical center in Michigan. Today, they provide orthopaedic outpatient surgery to almost 5,000 patients each year in four surgical suites at this facility.
In 2013, OAM and Metro Health partnered again to establish an orthopaedic center of excellence in West Michigan. Together, the organizations deliver evidence-based, outcome-driven, quality outpatient and inpatient orthopaedic care to the community.
“We are incredibly pleased to partner with Metro Health to establish OAM/Metro Sports Medicine,” said Patrick Reid, CEO at OAM. “This new practice brings together two established leaders in sports medicine to deliver the best patient experience.
“Our goal is to provide the best access to care to keep athletes active and healthy, while working to prevent and treat sports injuries with skill, knowledge and compassion. We take a team approach to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries that allows for the best patient outcomes.”
Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan is the largest orthopaedic practice in Michigan, with more than 30 orthopaedic surgeons trained in seven subspecialty areas within the field of orthopaedic medicine, including foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, spine, joint, trauma, sports medicine and physical medicine.
Metro Health and OAM have worked alongside one another, yet independently, for more than 15 years to provide coverage for more than 18 high schools, colleges and professional teams, including the Grand Rapids Griffins, in West Michigan. They are also involved in annually staffing and covering more than 25 race events, marathons and the Meijer State Games.
