Metro Health – University of Michigan Health Named CHIME Health Care’s “Most Wired” Seven Years in a Row

For the seventh consecutive year, Metro Health – University of Michigan Health has been recognized as one of CHIME Health Care’s Most Wired Hospitals in the country. Of the 13 Michigan hospitals that made the list, Metro Health is the only one in West Michigan to be recognized for their excellence in information technology.

Each year the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) awards 254 health care organizations as Most Wired. The honor is given to hospitals and health care systems that are on the forefront of using health care I.T. to improve the delivery of care.

“Being recognized again is a culmination of the continued commitment Metro Health has in utilizing technology to achieve our organization’s vision of taking health care to a better place,” said Josh Wilda, Chief Information Officer, Metro Health – University of Michigan Health. “The award is indicative of the hard work of our I.T. department and other professionals who support technology throughout the organization.”

Metro Health has always been a leader in the early adoption of technology. The hospital was the first in West Michigan to utilize EPIC, a fully integrated electronic medical record system, and has consistently led the way when it comes to integrating technology in physician offices and outpatient centers.

Metro Health continues to improve on MyChart, their digital health care platform for patients to access health information through a safe, secure online account. MyChart lets patients view test results, refill prescriptions and email providers from the convenience of their smartphone, tablet or computer. Taking MyChart one step further, open scheduling was recently added for patients to schedule appointments 24-7, when it’s convenient and assessable for them.

Metro Health is continually evolving to meet the advancing I.T. needs of patients. They focus on the patient provider relationship and use technology as a tool to bring the care team closer to improve patient care.

A total of 647 organizations representing 2,190 hospitals submitted application surveys to CHIME. The survey examines how hospitals are leveraging information technology to improve performance in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety and clinical integration. The list of the 254 Most Wired recipients was announced at the 2018 CHIME Fall CIO Forum in San Diego, California earlier this month.
