Metro Way 5K Returns to Metro Health Village
Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, including children, will participate in the second annual Metro Way 5K on July 10, 2011. The event features a newly designed course that will lead participants through quiet streets and trails, beginning and ending at Metro Health Village.
Participants can register up to 7:45 a.m. the day of the event. Complete details about the event, including registration information, can be found at metroway5k.com.
This year’s charity partners include Metro Health Hospital Foundation and MyTeam Triumph of West Michigan. Participants may select one of the charity partners to receive the funds from their individual registrations.
Metro Health Hospital Foundation is the fundraising arm of the hospital. Funds raised at the Metro Way 5K will be earmarked to support Metro Health’s Amputation Prevention Program. Every year, more than 100,000 adults in the United States lose lower limbs due to vascular disorders. The goal of this program is to prevent amputations as a result of peripheral vascular disease.
MyTeam Triumph is an athletic ride-along program for individuals with special needs. Athletes known as Angels escort these individuals, called Captains, through race courses using specially designed equipment to push or pull them along. The West Michigan chapter is involved in several running races, triathlons, and endurance sports in the area, dedicating itself to the wellbeing and joy of its Captains.
