Prostate Cancer Screening

Prostate Cancer Screening

Early detection is your best defense! Prostate screening is recommended for men aged 40-75 who have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer and who have not had an exam within the past year.

Saturday, June 6
8:00 a.m. – 12 noon
Metro Health Hospital
5900 Byron Center Ave., Wyoming
Register at (616) 252-7070. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer (other than skin cancer) among American men. It affects one of out six men in the United States. It is rare before the age of 40. It happens more often in men over 50 and is most common in men over 65. At higher risk are men who have a family history of prostate cancer and African-American men.

Early stage prostate cancer usually causes no pain or other symptoms. Later stage prostate cancer symptoms may include difficulty urinating; blood in the urine; and pain in the pelvis, lower back and upper thighs.

This screening includes prostate health education, a PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam. It is made possible by a grant from the Metro Health Hospital Foundation and by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.
