  • Zephyr Valve

    New Treatment for Emphysema

For patients suffering from severe COPD or Emphysema, the Zephyr Valve may be an option to improve quality of life. In this minimally invasive procedure, a doctor uses a bronchoscope, a small tube with a camera, to place small valves in the airways. This allows healthier parts of the lungs to expand, lifting pressure off the diaphragm and helping to ease breathing.  Patients begin seeing improvements to their breathing in roughly 45 days.

Patients must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the Zephyr Valve such as diagnosis of emphysema confirmed by a CT scan and to not actively be smoking for at least 4 months.

If you are interested in learning more or determining if you are a candidate, speak to your pulmonologist today. Schedule an appointment by calling 616.252.5220 or send a message in MyChart to your doctor.
