Summer Grants from Metro Health Hospital Foundation Fund Multiple Initiatives

Summer grants from the Metro Health Hospital Foundation will fund nearly $87,000 in programs and services provided by Metro Health.

Nine grants – the largest of them more than $12,000 to fund the purchase of emergency life-saving equipment – will support multiple initiatives. The grants, which are awarded three times per year, provide an opportunity for departments and programs within the hospital and its 12 neighborhood outpatient centers to request funding for educational, equipment and technology needs.

The 2010 summer grants include funding for:

  • Three community lectures by Metro Heart and Vascular to increase awareness and prevention of heart and vascular disease.
  • A free community screening from the Cardiovascular Center to encourage the early detection of peripheral artery disease, which narrows arteries, restricts blood flow and can lead to the amputation of limbs.
  • The purchase of SleepSaks for newborns, which will allow the hospital’s maternity program to educate new parents on safe sleeping practices before they take their little ones home.
  • The purchase of car seats, portable cribs and other essential safety supplies, as well as educational assistance, to low-income mothers.
